Syracuse, N.Y. — A new lawsuit alleges that the permits issued for the sprawling Micron Technology chipmaking complex in the town of Clay will allow Micron to pollute the air and water with toxic chemicals.
The suit, filed Friday in Albany County, says the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation failed to set safe limits on the emission of toxic chemicals into the air and their discharge into the Oneida River, including so-called “forever chemicals.” Instead, the suit charges, the DEC issued the permits and indefinitely postponed the setting of safe limits and safety measures.
“DEC’s approach is to lock the barn door only after the horses have escaped,” says the suit.
